  • This semester, the course MS 514 will be taught using the textbook by M. Meyers and K. Chawla, Mechanical Behavior of Materials, (Cambridge Univ. Press 2009). From the propective of engineering science, the subject rests on four pillars; theories of elasticity, dislocations, material kinetics and fracture. More emphasis will be paid to real materials and microstructures, and current reliability issues in the electronic materials will be discussed.

  • This course is designed to provide undergraduate students with fundamental knowledge on materials science and engineering. The relationship between microstructure and properties, which is influenced kinetically by thermo-mechanical processing, will be discussed to understand how the relationship affects mechanical, chemical, electronic, magnetic, and optical properties of various materials.
